Safety Measure during Lightning

Safety Measures Against Lightning: Lightning usually strikes tall buildings and trees. Here are some safety measures you can take if you are caught in a thunderstorm:

  • Do not take shelter under a tree.
  • Try to take shelter indoors.
  • You can even take shelter inside a car or a bigger vehicle like a truck.
  • Do not run across a large open field, or high ground.
  • If you cannot find a safe place, squat down in a low-lying place.
  • Get out of and away from open water.
  • Get away from tractors and other metal farm equipments.
  • Stay away from wire fences, clotheslines, metal pipes,rails and other metallic paths which could carry lighting to you from dome distance away.
  • Unplugging the telephone and unneccesary appliances.
  • Turning off the air conditioner. Power surges cause costly damages.
  • Listening to the news for updated weather reports.
